The Giraffe Centre in Nairobi is a conservation and education center dedicated to the endangered Rothschild giraffe. Established by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW) in 1979, the center's main goal is to increase the population of these giraffes. Here you can learn about giraffe conservation efforts, feed giraffes from elevated platforms, and enjoy close encounters with these gentle giants.
The Rothschild giraffe is one of the most endangered giraffe subspecies, with only a few hundred individuals remaining in the wild.
Rothschild giraffes are known for their unique coat patterns, which include less jagged, more rectangular spots compared to other giraffe subspecies.
The center has a breeding programme, and since its inception, numerous giraffes have been born there and released into national parks across Kenya.
