Information about Nyala

This rather large antelope inhabits dense woodlands and thickets along permanent water. This species is both a grazer and a browser. It will readily eat flowers, fruits and leaves – a variety that plays a role in securing its survival. The common name of this antelope is derived from the traditional Zulu word for the animal, inxala.

Interesting facts about Nyala

Juvenile Nyala males look like females.

Their defence against predators is their camouflage, as they are not very fast or strong.

Nyala have developed a special bond with baboons and vervet monkeys, as the antelope eat all the fruit that is dropped by their primate friends.

This massive park has an impressive range of wildlife - lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, gemsbok, hyena, wild dog, and more.
