The most photographed antelope in Southern Africa

Information about Gemsbok

Gembosk or Oryx are large antelopes with long, spear-like horns. They are a true desert animal, with a thick, horse-like neck; a short mane; and a compact, muscular body. They have clear, contrasting markings, which makes this one of the most photographed antelope in Africa.

Interesting facts about Gemsbok

Gemsbok adapt to hot climates due to their circulatory system: they can cool the blood that flows to their brain when they breathe.

Their diets consist of leaves, grass, thorny bushes and other vegetation.

They live in herds, which are a mix of males, females and their young.
